It’s time for a community challenge.
Players routinely comment that after GenCon the community kind of goes to sleep for a while – whether it’s the lull after the huge rush, or the end of summer and people going back to school, or cashflow thinning out as people just spent their stash, or whatever. And then things pick up again when Regionals gear up.
So what are players supposed to do in between? Why, have some fun with the game, of course. Try some new strategies. Try some figures you don’t always use. All without the worries about the timing of building a competitive squad.
Enter the Star Wars Miniverse International League. SWMvIL for short. Kind of catchy, isn’t it?
You can participate at your FLGS, on Vassal, at conventions, via phone / e-mail / chat, even at home.
The League will start as a determined # of challenges that you can do over a set period of time. Each challenge will be unique and un-related to the others. Challenges may require a pre-determined portion of a squad and players can fill in the rest of the points. A challenge may require (a) specific figure(s) on player squads. Don’t have a complete collection? That’s okay. These are fun games. Use proxy figures. A challenge may have players on opposing goals (ie - player A has 6 Toydarian Soldiers that are trying to get across and off the map while player B has 6 Ewok Warriors who is trying to stop A). Send us your challenge ideas for consideration. Play them at your pace.
Each part you participate in earns you and your country points. See where the International part of the name comes in?
How do I report results? It’s easy – just send an e-mail to swminiverse@gmail.com and let us know who played, their state/province/country, and the results. You may also post your thoughts, etc in the forums and let other players know more of the details behind the results. Participate, earn a point. Win the challenge, earn another point. Yes, you can play separate games with different opponents with the same challenge and earn multiple points. Points will be tallied and updated routinely.
Are there prizes? You bet.
Will you get rich with them? Not a chance.
What are they? Play and find out.
The goals are:
• keep people playing the game
• let them play the skirmish game as it is; simple and without scenarios
• involve players at a local level and a national / international level
• most of all, have fun
When is the SWMvIL?
It starts now. Look for the separate threads for individual challenges. Play. Report. Regular challenges will run until mid-January. Then we’ll have a couple final challenges to determine the overall winners. Do yourself and your country proud.
