Call me late to the party, having only dabbled in SWM a bit a couple of years ago, but now my kids and I love the game. How does one find a league in my local area or go about starting one? We have a couple FLGS that sell boosters but only one of them sells singles and that one is 40 minutes away.
It seems like a lot of the people have moved on the play Legions or something else. Since there were tons of these minis sold before WoTC stopped licensing them, there must be many people that could be interested still.

Better late than never. We covered growing a league in Episode #12 so start with that for some ideas. But what worked best for us was asking the store owner if we could put up a league flier by the boosters on the shelf. A copy of the most current flier is attached to this post. You can also print 1/4 sheet fliers for the store to put in the bag when people buy SWM product to remind them when they are home. Yes, they do forget by the time they get there. The 1/4 sheet only has to have the info (SWM league, day, time, your e-mail address) and not all the pictures. Attendance will be light to start. But have a consistent schedule so people can plan for it (it does not have to be weekly). Be there. Set up a map with figures. Demo it to people who are curious or interested. Most will not be back the next time, but some will return sometime. And they will bring others. And post on Bloomilk.com, SWMGamers.com, and even the forums at WotC. Let us know if you need more info or guidance. Hope we have helped and let us know how it goes. Attachments:

Thanks for the help on starting a league! I live in a county with only 100,000 people, and most anyone lives about 30 minutes away. We only have one store in the entire county that sells SWM at all, and that's the game store I intend on having League matches at. I have 3 other people in my play group normally, but they go to University down here with me (I recently graduated) and are not living down here for the summer, so there goes my regular play group.
I plan on calling up the LGS and showing up there on a set night every week to see if I can get people started on the game. I'm pretty new to SWM in general, so hopefully I can handle it all; I've always wanted to play some of the scenarios that Mark and Tim talk about on the show, they sound like a blast!
I'll probably be back with more questions as I get this thing started, but thanks with the info to start. =)

And we're certainly here if you need us to cover anything in more detail and/or provide some guidance/suggestions/etc based on your feedback.

I've found some players here and it's great but... The only games they want to play are 4 man free for all. Where I would rather play 1vs1 and get 4 games in the same time they play 1!!

What about suggesting that each player suggests a format and you try each player's idea once? Player A's idea this time, B's the following, C's after that, and then D's. That way different formats can be tried and maybe everyone will see that there can be some fun had with variation.
Or have you mentioned our show and asked what their thoughts are on trying some of our ideas?
